Blogs in teaching EFL
What is a blog?
A blog (short for weblog) ,it's an updated website and update a blog it requires only basic access to the internet and aminimum of technical know-how almost as easy as sending an email. We can display photos and we can use it with audio and video.
There are many reasons why we may choose to use Weblogs . One of them to provide a real audience for student writing and because the student writing can be read by other student ,classes even countries,so they focus not only on the form and the content also. Second point is providing extra reading practice for students, third point is guiding student to online resources appropriate for their level,we can use our tutor blog as a portal for the learners. Fourth point is encourage shy students to participate because they can express themselves in a blog . fifth one is that it can be a space used to promote discussion,the sixth one is helping build a closer relationship between students in a larg classes , it's another tool that can help bring students together. The blogs keeping students interested by asking questions and responding them and writing a short comment related to the content. There is one advanced feature keeping the track of alot of learner blogs is to use the "sitefeed"feature.
Finally, in my opinine using blogs is one of the most important ways of teaching that must used in uninversities and schools and must start using it more.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post. I like several of your thoughts .So I think blog is useful tool for students to reflect ,but they are also useful in the classroom by giving teacher an opportunity to reflect on their methods and practices .

ReplyDeletethere are many disadvantages of using blogs especially in EFL classes. first, Blogsit needs a lot of time to update and post an entry on the blog . secondly the writer's writing skills affect the quality and the professionalisim of the subject and the blog. another disadvangate of using ablog is the need to have a computer may not be feasible for everyone. one more disadvantage is that individuals and students may have diffeculties getting used to the technological advancements.also blogs is not suited for issues requiring immediate solution and finally, blogs create a sense of students competing with each just for posting entries. The fear of students getting diverted away from the subject is an issue of concern.
ReplyDeleteAlaa waht you have posted is wonderful. You have mentioned that blogs allow real(authentic)communication to take place, knowing that we have artificial one in traditional classes. Next, According to what you have post, shy students will find blogs golden Opportunity to be a member of that community. I disagree with idea that students in large classes will find it easy to communicate, knowing that they are distance from the taecher they might not interact with the class.

In my opinion ,I think the positives of a blog more than its disadvantages, because it is very important these days . In adddition , it is easy to use it in any where ant it is atool between student .
